Filed under: City: New York,Clubs,General — xstasy @ 2:41 pm

thursday nights at club cache are the best in the ny salsa scene. i only wish it were earlier since i have to awaken very early to work it’s from 10pm-2am…nothing but non-stop salsa dancing in an open, addictive & positive environment.

i attended jimmy anton’s social on sunday- as usual- great. jimmy anton was DJing with another DJ- I’d like to tknow who he is bc i loved his selections- he didnt abuse the fast-paced stuff.

Los Angeles Salsa Congress – Saturday

Saturday 5/29/04:

Got to Salsa Land the same relatively early time in the evening, but there was already a line outside the performance tent. Right next door in the dance tent, DJ Nelson Torres was spinning to an empty dance floor (zero people). People were in their seats for more than half an hour before the show started and could have gone next door to dance but no one did. I asked Nelson and he said that was the only time slot he had all evening. Such a waste to have one of New York’s best DJs and no one dancing. (more…)

Ryles rant

water water everywhere and not a drop to drink. okay a bit of an exaggeration, but that’s how ryles felt last night if you were a male on2 dancer. a couple of us were trying to figure out why. it’s been the case more often than not for a few months now. the music is good, the floor is good, the night is crowded, the area is safe, parking is easy, but hardly any ladies dance on2. They are in the classes and in the dance groups, so it’s not that they don’t exist in this town.

people in dance groups were putting in extra practices getting ready for last weekend’s LA congress. perhaps things will improve now that’s over.

looking forward to the friday salsa night opening in cambridge in a couple of weeks. won’t spill the beans on its venue as that hasn’t been announced yet, but it has lots of potential.

Los Angeles Salsa Congress – Friday

Friday 5/28/04:

In what became a pattern for the weekend, I spent much of the day either sleeping or making use of the free wireless internet at the Hilton lobby. I hadn’t registered for the workshops this year because in the past they’ve been too crowded to be useful. I suspect they might not have been crowded after all on account of their being at Salsa Land and not convenient to the hotel. (more…)

Los Angeles Salsa Congress – Thursday

Thursday 5/27/04:

Made it to Logan airport with much time to kill but not enough to pick up shoes forgotten at home. The highlight of an otherwise uneventful flight from Boston was the aerial view of “Salsa Land” as we were about to land at LAX. Salsa Land is the tent village set up in the parking lot of the Hollywood Park Casino and to be home for all the dancing activities planned for the congress weekend. I was curious how it would work out having all the workshops there instead of at the hotel as in previous years. (more…)
